With Much Anticipation

My kids cannot wait until tomorrow when the 24 hours a day Christmas music radio station starts and the fall decor around the house goes "bye-bye." You cannot escape the fact that the holiday season is here because it is everywhere we look, even my blog! I know I am guilty of pushing the season, but for me it has only been for cards (well, and maybe just a bit of shopping, too). How about you? Who is ready for the mad dash to the holidays?

One of the things we like to do together is bake cookies. A few times in the past I have even made up pieces for gingerbread houses. I like to make my own because it smells so good and I like making the faux stained glass windows with broken lollipops leftover from Halloween. I hope that we will have time to make one this year because we didn't get to it last year. If not, I may just go to Macy's and pick up the fancier Martha Stewart gingerbread house kit (instead of the Wilton ones at the craft stores) because it looks really nice. Boy did I get off track! As I was saying, gingerbread houses...

I was inspired to make this card here because Joyce, one of the A Muse Shop crew, had suggested that the Martha Stewart drippy goo border punch would be great for icing for a gingerbread house. I borrowed my mom's punch and tried it for myself. And, Joyce was right! I trimmed an A Muse square notecard just a bit at the bottom and added the white roof with pop dots. Then I just added the candy bits and cut out windows. I couldn't resist putting a little gingerbread boy inside, too. Surprisingly, this was a fairly quick card. The hardest part was the window cutting, but you could easily draw those on there. My kids love it and want more so they can have a whole village. I don't know that I have time for that, though; it will either be card houses or cookie houses, and I think the kids prefer the sampling of candies to the sampling of paper scraps!

I hope everyone who has a holiday enjoys today (and tomorrow!).

card info: notecard, candy cane, ginger boy and twinkle stickers by A Muse, colored pencils, glitter by Stampendous, punch by Martha Stewart.

This is too cute and clever, Elena! Just love everything about it! I hold off on bringing in the holidays until after my DD birthday party. It is Dec.6th this year (she will officially be 5 on the 9th) so about a week to go! Instead, we are cleaning up around here today- I like things extra tidy before bringing in the holiday decor and like to weed through the current toys before the onslaught!
